Global Learning: A World of Opportunity for Appalachian Students
Fourth-Hour Instruction for Languages
Through the QEP, Appalachian will enhance and institutionalize a pilot project started in 2010 by adding a fourth hour of small-group conversation practice to beginning and intermediate-level courses in the following targeted languages:
This will provide students with more adequate contact time and practice for these languages and bring the programs more in line with national norms. International Teaching Partners (ITPs), recruited from partnership institutions abroad, will provide this instruction. The fourth-hour instruction classes target the intercultural skills student learning goal.
International Teaching Partners
International Teaching Partners (ITPs) typically will be invited to spend a full year at Appalachian and be rotated among the targeted languages. They will offer conversational practice sessions and co-curricular activities for language students and for the broader university community.
